Setting a Gemstone - Claw / Prong Setting
A Claw Setting, also referred to as a prong setting, is the most common setting used to set faceted stones. There are two methods for creating the setting -
(1) make a collet from sheet metal and then shape the prongs from the collet.
(2) create a collet from wire, also referred to as a basket setting.
We'll talk you through step by step, how to set a stone into a ring using both methods and discuss the tools required and there purpose.

Most students go home with two claw set rings.
Note - Prior knowledge. To attend this subject you must have completed both Modules 1 & 2 or have prior experience of the subjects taught in Modules 1 & 2 and be confident at soldering.
